Splintered Waveform – Fine Art Print by D.A. Merrick
Digital painting printed with archival inks on select archival fine art papers
In Splintered Waveform, vibrant colors and a mixture of organic and inorganic shapes relay a psychotic energy to the viewer. This is the mind as it burns. The only objects that are vaguely formal are the rolling hills, but, then again, perhaps they are a waveform. Perhaps these are the particles of thought in the mind of someone who is dying, psychotic and alone, as if awaiting nuclear annihilation.
Artist statement: "Splintered Waveform is a piece I started probably about 2018 and returned to in 2025. It was done while I had thyroid cancer, and as such, it reflects the fractured mind I had at the time. Thyroid cancer can cause people to become manic, depressed, and psychotic; and I was all of those things. I can't pinpoint a specific thought process, but it was an outlier in a series I titled the Quest for Happiness series. Despite being so sick, I didn't know it, and I was trying to be happy and find some peace while enduring these symptoms. In updating it, I removed some of the clutter and just tried to preserve my current aesthetic values. It's an odd piece, for sure, but it's a part of my history as an artist."

Framing Note:
A white border is included around the artwork in each print. This border varies in width depending on the print size, but is always present to help preserve the composition during trimming and to assist with matting and framing. The image that is being printed from is sized to have a 1" border at the maximum size. That border shrinks as the print size shrinks. In addition, a small portion of this border is lost during trimming. Total listed dimensions include this border.
